The RFID device serves the same purpose as a bar code or a magnetic strip on the back of a credit card or ATM card; it provides a unique identifier for that object. And, just as a bar code or magnetic strip must be scanned to get the information, the RFID device must be scanned to retrieve the identifying information. The differentiating factors to consider when choosing the most suitable device is how far away the object will be from the device and the number of objects that need to be scanned in one read.

Ultra High Frequency RFID utilizes the 860 to 930MHz band – typically 868 MHz in Europe and 915 MHz in North America. Read range is up to 3m (9.5 ft) and the data transfer rate is faster than HF systems. The primary rationale for utilizing this frequency is the greater read range.

Typical applications for UHF frequency RFID devices include: Supermarket and warehouse inventory control, motorway tolls.

High Performance UHF

The new 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader is designed to read and write to EPC Class 1 Gen 2 (ISO18000-6C) UHF transponders and communicate with a variety of host devices via Bluetooth®wireless technology.  With its Impinj R2000 core and range of interchangeable high performance antennas the 1128 performs like no other reader, giving the user the highest levels of flexibility currently available in today’s market.  The reader can be configured with class leading high performance 2D data scanning to bring unparalleled data collection capabilities to connected devices.

Demonstration Software

Our ‘RFID Explorer’ App demonstrates the performance, functionality and versatility of the 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader. It also serves as demonstration of TSL’s powerful ASCII 2 protocol. It is available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone. The iOS version of RFID Explorer is compatible with iPhone® 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch® (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad®,  and requires iOS 5.1 or later. Integrate With Ease

The 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader  incorporates TSL’s unique ASCII protocol for faster and easier application development. This sophisticated parameterised ASCII protocol provides the developer a powerful set of commands that carry out multiple actions locally within the reader.  This approach enables multiple tag operations executed using simple pre-configured ASCII commands which speeds integration of the reader into applications.

Multi-Platform

The 1128 brings high performance UHF RFID scanning to devices running a wide range of Operating Systems including Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, WinCE, and Windows XP/Vista/7/8. The 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader is compatible with Bluetooth® enabled host devices including enterprise handhelds, consumer phones, touchscreen MP3 players, tablets and PCs.

Almost any small device can be attached to the 1128 Bluetooth® UHF RFID Reader using a combination of the 1128 Accessory Mount and commercially available device cases.  The Accessory Mount securely holds the device in place, yet slides on and off the reader body in one quick action.  Customized mounts are also available by special request.  The diagram below illustrated the different attachment methods available:
